Off Page SEO (Backlinks)
Off-page SEO involves implementing strategies outside a website to boost its rankings. Common tactics include link building, guest posting, and social media marketing. The objective is to enhance the perception of your site’s trustworthiness and authority by search engines and users.
Why Is Off-Page/Backlinks SEO Important?
Consider off-page SEO as the process of building a site’s authority and reputation. Highly reputable sites rank better because search engines consider them as having more Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-E-A-T). Off-page SEO factors like backlinks, reviews, and recommendations are important for demonstrating E-E-A-T, making it a vital element for your site’s ranking ability.
Backlinks are integral to SEO because the search engines take links into consideration when ranking pages in the search results.
Backlinks act as a vote of confidence from external sites that your site is worth linking to. This signals that it’s a high quality site, with relevant content and provides a good user experience. The search engine can register that your site is deemed worthy of linking to and therefore worthy of a position in the SERPs.
As a result, backlinks can help to improve search position and site rankings.
What makes a good link?
1.Domain Authority – Using SEO tools like Ahrefs you can see the domain authority of other websites. As a simple rule of thumb, if the website’s domain authority is above 40, then they are a good link.
2.From a Relevant Source – Google registers if the backlinks are between two relevant pages. For example if a site mentions a product, and then links to the product page of that website, that is a clear, relevant connection.
3.High Quality – You want to ensure a trusted source is linking to you. Generally a page with less then 10 external links in the copy can be considered high quality.
4.Sends Traffic – They encourage users to click through to your site. This removes the need for users to actively search for the site – the easier something is, the more the user is likely to do it.
5.Anchor Text – The anchor text is the word the backlink is hyperlinked from. You want to ensure the anchor text is as clear and focused as possible, whilst still sounding natural in the copy. We recommend writing the anchor text for the site giving you a backlink as you can ensure its inline with your brand. You can phrase it as helping them out e.g. “we can provide the anchor text for you to save you the trouble, all you will need to do on your end is add the link”.
6.In Content – A link that’s higher up in the copy and flows naturally in the content is best. Although, please be mindful that some sites format all their external links / references at the bottom of the page.

Why would someone link to my site?
Not only are backlinks great for your website’s SEO, but can actually improve the SEO of the site providing the link.
Adding external links into the content helps to direct users to other helpful content they may be interested in. This signifies to the search engines that the site cares about the ‘user experience’ which Google values and takes into consideration in the SERPs.
This is a great method of persuasion when it comes to asking sites for backlinks. When conducting outreach its always good to state why the site would benefit from giving a backlink as they would be more inclined to implement a link if they see a return.
Backlink Outreach
Outreach is when you directly contact a site and ask for a backlink to your page. There are a few key things you need to include in your outreach email:
1.Ensure the emails are personalised – Although you will be contacting people in batches, you need to ensure that every email is personalised and relevant to that site. You may already have a relationship established or if you are unfamiliar with a site, it is always good to start the email with a compliment.
2.Provide the link you want implemented – A specific link has sometimes got greater value than a generic link to the homepage. Make sure in your email you state clearly what link you would like them to use.
3.Provide the page you want them to implement the link on – If there is a specific page on their site that you would like them to link from, make sure you include it in your email as it saves them the effort of hunting for the page you would like.
4.Provide anchor text – As you know it can be good to provide the anchor text to make the life easier for the site who are giving you a backlink. People are more inclined to provide a backlink if they view it as minimal effort.
5.Explain why it’s good for them to give you a backlink – If you have a partnership already established this step may be redundant as they are already inclined to help. If not, remember to say it’s “beneficial to your SEO and your user’s experience to provide external links on wider content they may be interested in”.
